Katie is a 16 year old girl on home health Care for brain cancer. Katie’s mother and father are divorced. Katie lives with her mother and 13 year old brother while her father lives in Northern California. It is unlikely Katie will survive the aggressive cancer. The option of hospice has been raised by the nurse, but Katie and her parents want to pursue aggressive treatment.

No Family Should Take This Journey Alone |

The mother begins to cry and asks why God has done this to her? Erin is able to listen and suggest resources, but the home health benefit does not allow for any further service. The hospice benefit would provide extensive counseling and support for Katie and her family, but would force Katie to forego aggressive treatment. |
Haven’s Heart can provide Katie and her family with a master’s level social worker, spiritual counselor and bereavement professional to get them thru this difficult time. Just because Katie and her family want to continue to fight her illness should not disqualify them from getting the emotional attention and support they deserve. |
Erin, the social worker calls the home and speaks with the mother who reports that Katie cries on a daily basis and also has become verbally abusive to her and her sister. |
